Excited to have these guys at The Loft tonight….
I don’t often use my time on Weekend Preview to chat about my own events but this week I’m super excited that Mexican Institute of Sound will finally be playing at The Loft. Thanks to the Midday Edition crew for letting me indulge in a Loft Event!

Winter Quarter is just beginning on UCSD’s campus and what better way to usher in the new year then by celebrating wonderful music with the people you love! More information on the show can be found here.
See you there,
The Loft.
Before I held the position of performance curator at The Loft and during the application process for said job I was asked to create an example vision of what programming in the space might look like should I be at the helm. That vision included a regular event that would highlight food and drink,…

Daedelus feat. Free the Robots and Illuminauts

Regular: $10
UCSD Student: $5 advance;
pay as you can at the door.
Daedelus, aka Alfred Darlington, isn’t your average cookie-cutter musician. From his early Victorian looks, to the innovative ways he constructs music, Daedelus is no doubt a musical pioneer and individual. Gaining ground in the LA music scene, this experimental musician has paved way for himself here and around the world; his album releases have artistically defied genres like electronic and hip-hop to make a sound of his own. Daedelus weaves together a true “love-sound” that falls between honeyed melody and avant-electronic rave. Amazing audiences across the globe, Daedelus’ live performances are where he shines; he utilizes the Monome, an electronic instrument allowing for a great deal of improvisation, which brings a genuine liveliness to the sometimes static world of performed electronic/dance music. Daedelus’ upcoming live performance at The Loft will be an experience not to miss.
Chris Alfaro is Free the Robots. The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, Psych, Electronic, Hip Hop, with progressive melodies and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending of obscure samples with analog and digital compositions. With the constant development of Alfaro’s sound and live show, Free the Robots has shared the stage with the likes of Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, the Glitch Mob, and soon to be Daedelus at The Loft.
