    !!!PATRICK WATSON!!!
We’re bringing back one of our favorite artists! For FREE!
Come check him out tonight at 9:00pm at The Loft.

Patrick Watson first broke through to audiences in 2006 with his album Close to Paradise. Watson’s latest offering, entitled Adventures in Your Own Backyard, is in his own words, an effort on the band’s part to “make the kind of music we would want to listen to at home.” The album’s title is both a nod to this sentiment, and to the fact that it was recorded almost entirely in Watson’s apartment in Montreal. Both Close to Paradise and Wooden Arms were recorded over long periods of time, in many different places—Wooden Arms is especially scattered in its geography, with a number of the songs having been informed by the band’s extensive travels in the wake of the success of Close to Paradise.

Young, witty, pretty, and smart is Kelsea Little.

Kelsea will be completing her West Coast tour at The Loft with her homecoming show.

Kelsea began taking harp lessons around the corner from her childhood home at just 8 years old. She moved through school excelling in literary and musical studies, and her interests eventually gravitated toward songwriting. After a successful three year run with her first band, The Wrong Trousers of YouTube fame, she has recently emerged onto the indie folk scene as a solo artist and is making quite an impression already. While often compared to Regina Spektor and Joanna Newsom, Kelsea has a style all her own. With honest, enticing lyrics and an ear for evocative melodies, her music is relatable and yet excitingly brand new at the same time. Even more enchanting than her songs is her stage presence. She speaks so colloquially with each new audience that, after seeing her live, you may have the strange feeling that you just made a new best friend. And if you told her, she’d probably oblige.

In 2010, Kelsea released a self-recorded album, Art Vs. Craft, a whimsical collection of experimental recordings from her early years of songwriting. With Aural Gravy Records, a small operation here in San Diego, she was able to record and release her first solo record, Personal Myth, in December 2011. Personal Myth, with its much fuller sound, reflects Kelsea’s maturation as a musician and the unique way in which she views the world.

I had the pleasure of seeing New York sings Hadestown Rockwood Music Hall last January with an incredible cast featuring contributor and Low Anthem member Ben Knox Miller along with “Jefferson Hamer, Jesse Elliott (These United States) Aoife O’Donovan (Crooked Still), Ruthy Merenda (Mike & Ruthy), Kristin Andreassen (Uncle Earl), plus arranger Michael Chorney and the Hadestown Orchestra, plus producer Todd Sickafoose.

Anais will be coming to The Loft as part of her spring tour and if my past experiences are anything to go by this show is not to be missed.
